Following a successful tender design submission, Roughan & O’Donovan undertook the detailed design of the M8 N8 Cullahill to Cashel Road Improvement Scheme in a 50:50 JV. Commencing in late 2006, this Target Cost contract was the largest road scheme in Ireland to progress to detailed design and construction at that time. An extremely challenging 12 month design programme was agreed with Roadbridge-Sisk to allow the project to be delivered 7 months ahead of schedule.

The scheme links the N8 Cashel Bypass in County Tipperary at its Southern end with the M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill Motorway at its Northern End.The scheme comprises over 40km of motorway, numerous side road improvements and over 50 principal structures including 18 Road overbridges, 5 Road underbridges, 8 River bridges and a Rail bridge.

The scheme was opened to traffic at the end of 2008 and won the ACEI President’s Award in 2009 for Exellence in Design for this scheme.
