Flood Risk

Roughan & O’Donovan has developed significant experience in the hydrologic assessment of catchments and the hydraulic modelling of watercourse crossings as part of our work on major infrastructural schemes such as Narrow Water Bridge on Carlingford Lough and the River Nore on the M7M8 PPP scheme.

In response to the EU Floods Directive and subsequent publication by the Irish Office of Public Works of guidance on planning with respect to flood risk management, our capability has developed further to include the preparation of stand-alone flood risk assessments.

We have also been involved in several river improvement schemes and coastal protection projects.  These include Carysfort Maretimo Stream Improvement Scheme, where Roughan & O’Donovan undertook the feasibility and detailed design in joint venture with alliance partner AECOM.  On the Dollymount Promenade Flood Protection Project (Sutton to Sandycove Phase 1) Roughan & O’Donovan undertook the feasibility study and preliminary design for a combined boardwalk, cycleway and flood protection scheme on the highly environmentally designated Dublin Bay coast.
